9 am-12 pm: Home Depot Kids Workshop – Holiday Yard Stakes (ages 5-12)

9 am-3 pm: Santa Hotline (ages 3-10). Kids can call 573-874-7473 or 573-874-6335 to speak with Santa or one of his helpers.

10 am-11:30 pm: (10 am food, 10:30 am talk): Saturday Morning Science – The Secret Lives of Membrane Proteins, Monsanto Auditorium, Bond Life Sciences Center, MU. Parking is available at the Virginia Avenue Garage. If that garage is full, the University Avenue Garage is the best alternate option. There is a cost for street parking at this time.

10 am-12 pm: Orscheln Farm & Home Kids Clinic – Make a Reindeer.

11-11:30 am: TRYPS Theater: Live at Eleven (ages 3-8), Children’s Program Room (“the Egg”), Columbia Public Library. At this workshop, children play games, sing, dance and act out books. Presented by TRYPS, Columbia’s professional theater group for young audiences.

11 am-4 pm: Holiday Taste of Hy-Vee at all three locations. We checked this out yesterday. The west Columbia store (#1) had lots of wonderful things to try, including wines. The south store (Rock Bridge) has a wonderful chef, and he customized some foods to try; they did not have the wine, but in the Spirits section, a local beer vendor was sampling their locally-made beer. We did not try the north side store (#3), but the stores are unique in their offerings. Check it out!

12-5 pm: Holiday Gift-Making Workshop at the Peace Nook, downtown. This is a wonderful, informal setting to make inexpensive gifts. Offerings will vary every year, depending on donated supplies and volunteers, but in the past they have offered decoupage jars, simple handmade books, and handmade scented bath salts.

1-2:30 pm: class – How Your Body Really Works (or doesn’t): Why Take That at Natural Grocers.

2-5 pm: City Kwanzaa Celebration at Douglass High School. There will be community awards given, entertainment, and a holiday feast.

6-8 pm: movie – Beethoven’s Treasure Tail (2014) [PG] [1:38] at the Armory (behind the Boone County Courthouse). Park in the lot behind the Armory and go in the back door. If the door is locked, just knock and someone will let you in. This is an informal setting, and great for kids who need to wiggle a bit or laugh out loud at funny moments in the movie.

7-9:15 pm (& 9:30-11:45 pm): (cost is $1/per person) movie – Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) [PG-13] [2:01], Wrench Auditorium, Memorial Union South, MU.
