The Columbia Public Library (100 W Broadway, intersection of Broadway and Garth streets) continues its regular children’s programs with Toddler Time on Friday at 9:30 or 10:30 am, and Brick Builders (ages 5+) from 9:30-11:30 am on Saturday.

Westlake Ace Hardware is holding an Energy Open House on Friday from 1-7 pm at the Business Loop 70 location, and on Saturday from 9 am-3 pm at the Worley location. Stop by to talk with energy experts about how to plan for efficiency updates.

All three Hy-Vee locations are holding Taste of Hy-Vee from 3-7 pm on Friday and 11 am-4 pm on Saturday. While the samples are, overall, the same, the different stores often have a slightly different take on the event. Hy-Vee (#1, West Broadway) is also holding a Dietitian’s Pick of the Month Demo from 4-5 pm on Friday.

Friday, January 30:

Images of America:  Columbia
From 10 am to 12 pm is the book signing for Images of America: Columbia by Valerie Battle Kienzle at The Mizzou Store in the University of Missouri Student Center (911 E Rollins St).

From 2-4 pm, you can get Internet and Computer Assistance in the Training Center on the second floor of the Columbia Public Library (Broadway and Garth). Stop in any time for assistance.

At 5:30 pm, the Museum of Art and Archaeology has the next talk in their lecture series: “Framing Andrea Vaccaro’s ‘David’ in the University of Missouri Museum of Art and Archaeology” by Riccardo Lattuada, with reception following. The talk will be in 707 Mizzou North (115 W Business Loop 70)—be sure to use the west elevators, as they are the only ones that go to the seventh floor.

Finally, from 6-7 pm, in conjunction with the Third Goal Film Fest on Saturday, is a Filmmaker Workshop with Brad Allgood hosted by Columbia Access Television (CAT). The Workshop brings an intimate, in-depth discussion with a world renowned filmmaker. This is a unique opportunity to see clips from the director and listen to him discuss the stories behind his films, and questions from the audience are a large part of the experience. The Workshop will be held in Studio A, which is in Helis Communication Center, in the basement below Windsor Auditorium of the Stephens College campus (1405 E Broadway).

Saturday, January 31:

From 9 am to 2 pm is a Cycling Class (ages 14+) provided by the City of Columbia. This is a registered event, so call 573-874-7460 to register. This class will be held in the the Conference Room of the Armory Sports Center (701 E Ash St).

From 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment will be held in the Training Center (second floor) of the Columbia Public Library. The Library is holding this event every Saturday through February 14, 2015. Trained staff from one of four local community agencies will be on hand to provide information and/or assist with enrollment. Assistance is provided on a drop-in basis, first come first served.

From 12-9:30 pm, the Third Goal Film Fest will be held at the Missouri Theater (203 S 9th St). The Central Missouri Returned Peace Corps Volunteers sponsors this event of global films with local dialogue. Attendees are welcome to come for one or all of the films and discussions about culture, politics, and issues that face us at home and abroad.


From 1-4 pm, Natural Grocers (400 N Stadium Blvd) is hosting the Healthy & Delicious Tasting Fair. During the fair, from 1-2 pm is the Don’t Just Wing It! class about meal planning.
