Science Café for September is Plant Sense by University of Missouri (MU) researcher Dr. Heidi Appel.
Description: We tend to think of senses being exclusively something experienced only by animals. But hearing, sight, touch, smell are senses that plants experience too, although in a different way. So how do plants “see” the sun and detect differences in light quality, or “hear” the vibrations of feeding insects, or sense movement and contact of objects on their stems and leaves? Find out tonight at 6 pm at Broadway Brewery (816 E Broadway)!
Science Café Columbia is an informal gathering of people interested in listening to or participating in a discussion on a popular science topic, while relaxing with a beer or coffee. [FCMo Note: Beverages are available for purchase, and are optional.] Science Cafés are grassroot, community-run organizations that seek to inspire minds and share scientific knowledge within the community. Anyone is welcome at any Science Café event! Science Café Columbia is held the second Monday of the month at Broadway Brewery (816 E Broadway), and sponsored by MU Life Sciences Center and Broadway Brewery.
