7-8 pm: Fall Sampler Concert at the Missouri Theatre. The University of Missouri Music Department features the MU Brass Choir, MU Flute Ensemble, Mizzoons, MU Cello Choir, MU Jazz Combo, Tiger Steel Pans, and vocal and piano soloists.

Tue, Sep 25

7-8 pm: One Read Author’s Talk: David Grann in Launer Auditorium at Columbia College. David Grann will read from his bestselling book “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” and discuss his research and writing process. After his remarks, he will answer questions from the audience and sign copies of the book.

7-8:45 pm: Climate Action Seminar on Reducing Food Waste in the Commission Chambers at the Boone County Government Center. Part of the Columbia Climate Action Education Series, this talk shares how changing climate has significant implications for food production. Wasted food is wasted greenhouse gas emissions, so our society and community needs to reduce food waste. Speakers: Martha Dragich – retired University of Missouri law professor; Maria Rodriguez-Alcalá, Academic Professor, Division of Applied Social Sciences, University of Missouri; Mark Haim – Director of Mid-Missouri Peaceworks; Sean Ross – Food Bank.

8-10 pm: Won’t You Be My Neighbor? (2018) [PG-13] [1:34] showing at Wrench Auditorium in Memorial Union South, University of Missouri. A documentary about the man who inspired generations of children.

Thu, Sep 27

9-10 am: Women Business Owner Mastermind Exchange, meets in Suite 102 of the REDI Offices (downtown). Learn about the power of mastermind groups as you experience this confidential, supportive space for women to come together and discuss challenges, ideas and success stories. New attendees always welcome.

4:30-6:30 pm (5 pm talk): Artist talk and reception for the Julian Foley MFA Thesis Exhibition in the University of Missouri Bingham Gallery. This project explores the behaviors of indifference surrounding the abdication of personal and societal responsibility in American culture.

7-10:30 pm: Movies in the Park – May It Last: A Portrait of The Avett Brothers (2017) [NR] [1:44] in the park outside Rose Music Hall. Filmed over a two-year-plus period, this documentary is an intimate portrait of the acclaimed North Carolina band The Avett Brothers, charting their decade-and-a-half rise, while chronicling their present-day collaboration with famed producer Rick Rubin on the multi-Grammy-nominated album “True Sadness”. Bring lawn chairs or something to sit on.

Fri, Sep 28

6-10 pm: 3rd Cruisin’ To Fight Cancer outside Parkade Center. This event continues 9 am-3 pm on Sat Sep 29. While this event is a fundraiser, there are plenty of free things to enjoy–car lovers can enjoy the vehicles on display. Friday night includes music by the Clay Creek Band. Saturday will include Hot Wheel races for all ages—cars provided for kids and adults can bring their own; One Too Many Band; DJ Colossal Sounds ; games for kids; and more.

Sat, Sep 29

10 am-4 pm: 12th South Farm Showcase, at the University of Missouri South Farm Research Center. This event is about sharing the fun and excitement of science and discovery. Near-by Jefferson Farm and Garden is also part of the fun, via a short wagon ride. Activities include: •Taste of Mizzou sampling tent •Passport stamp collection (kids) – complete for free pumpkin •Cockroach races •Corn maze •Putting on the green •Flying kites •Baby animal exhibits •Foal parade •Dog training demo •Face painting •Hay bale and commodity play areas •Missouri Department of Conservation Discover Nature Fishing •Farm equipment to explore •Native butterfly house.

8-9 pm: Kelariz Keshavarz – Flute Guest Artist Recital at Whitmore Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building, University of Missouri. Accompanied by Shoko Nelson.

 Sun, Sep 30 — A day for music…

1-3 pm: Community Drum Circle at Good Nature. This weekly group meets for drumming and dancing in Good Nature’s large basement space. All drummers and dancers are welcome. This season’s weekly drum circle will be led by Don Breuer.

3-4 pm: Drei Bones Trio – Guest Artist-Faculty Brass Recital at Whitmore Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building, University of Missouri. Part of the University of Missouri Trombone/Trumpet Day.

7-8 pm: Otto Sauter and Iskander Akhmadullin (trumpets) and Natalia Bolshakova (piano) – Guest Artist and Faculty Recital at Whitmore Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building, University of Missouri. Part of the University of Missouri Trombone/Trumpet Day.
