Movies

This week, Forum 8 Theater is showing Wizard of Oz (1939 remastered). The summer movies are $1 per person, and show every weekday at 10 am.

CPL’s Center Aisle Cinema is showing Good Fortune on Wednesday at 6:30 pm.

The Seventh Seal is also showing on Wednesday night, at 6 pm, at Ragtag.

On Friday, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will show on MU’s Lowry Mall at 9 pm, with free food beforehand.On Saturday, The LEGO Movie is showing at the Armory at 6 pm. Enter through the back door. Armory movie showings are a casual environment, where kids are more free to move about than in theaters/auditoriums.

Music

Open Mic is occurring at Cooper’s Landing on Saturday afternoon from 1-4 pm.

The Shelter Insurance Summer Concert Series features Ironweed/Swampweed in the Gardens on Sunday evening at 7 pm.

Kids’ Events

Family Golf Night is tonight (Monday) at Nickell Golf Course. Check to see if they still have openings.

The next Family Fun Fest is this Wednesday, 6-8 pm, at Flat Branch Park (downtown).

As always, the Columbia Public Library has loads of events for kids, from age 0, and more for older kids for the summer. Many programs are related to the Summer Reading Program with a theme of science this year. This week’s offerings include The Science of Harry Potter and Magic School Bus Celebration. Computer

The Columbia Public Library continually offers lots of computer classes and training, including Maximizing Your Apple Mobile Device, Skype for Beginners, Checking Out Digital Materials, and Blogging Made Simple. These classes require registration, plus the public library regularly offers Drop-In Internet and Computer Assistance. The computer/technology offerings are provided in the Training Center on the second floor. See the FCMo calendar for details.

Art

On Thursday, at 3:30 pm, the MU Museum of Art & Archaeology (which is now located in Mizzou North, the building formerly known as Ellis Fischel Cancer Center), offers a class/workshop for kids (K-8) entitled “Art Rocks!”. The kids will learn about rock art and make their own. Call 573-882-3591 to register.

Thursday, from 4-6 pm, the MU Craft Studio Gallery has a reception for the “the gardener, the imposter + the surface of the moon” show.

The next Artrageous Friday is this Friday, downtown, from 6-9 pm! Venues with specific exhibits are listed in the calendar description, and more will be open downtown.
