This morning, check out Saturday Morning Science about solar eclipses in general, and the full eclipse we will experience here in Missouri in 2017! I am really excited about this one! Talk starts at 10:30 am, at the MU Bond Life Sciences Center. Recommended parking in Virginia Avenue Garage, or, if you want to stay further away from football traffic and walk only a little further, University Avenue Garage. Plan to get there after 10 am for bagels, donuts, coffee, and/or juice.

There are movies available this weekend, too.
Forum 8 Theater has two showings of The Croods [PG] at 9 am and 10 am, on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The Sandlot 2 [PG] is showing at the Armory (near downtown) on Saturday at 6 pm. Enter through the back door. This is an informal setting where kids can wiggle a bit if they need to.
Tonight is the last showings, at 7 pm and 9:30 pm, of How to Train Your Dragon 2 [PG] at MU Wrench Auditorium in the Memorial Union. Note: There is a cost of $1.

This weekend is the big Heritage Festival at Nifong Park. The festival is open 10 am to 5 pm, both Saturday and Sunday. There is also evening storytelling on Saturday night. See list of festival features and links for more info in the details section of the calendar.

The MU Theatre Department conducts the last two days of their 12th Life and Literature Performance Series in the Corner Playhouse (Hitt St and University Ave) on Saturday and Sunday nights, 7:30-9:30 pm. Doors open at 7 pm and these popular, free theater performances fill quickly, so we recommend you get there early to get a seat. Note: These performance have adult content.

Orscheln has their monthly Kids Clinic on Saturday, from 10 am-12 pm. This is available at both Orscheln locations and the craft is making a Popsicle stick coaster.

The Columbia Public Library has Lego Land (ages 5+) on Saturday from 9:30-11:30 am. You can drop in and play with Legos for awhile in the “egg” (Children’s Program Room).
The library also has Stories in Art, Art in Stories, a fun art program hosted by the Columbia Art League, on Saturday from 3-4 pm. This is an activity that requires registration, but you can call the library at 443-3161 (ask for the Children’s Desk) to see if there are openings. This is also in the “egg”.

Barnes & Noble Storytime, at 11 am Saturday morning, is Curious George’s Curious Day. Barnes & Noble is in the Columbia Mall, and Storytimes are in the children’s book area.

On Saturday, from 2-5 pm, Cooper’s Landing has Open Mic Hosted by Pippa Letsky.

On Sunday, from 12-1 pm, Lucky’s Market has a Celebration of Color Class for kids. This event has requested registration, you can call the store at 573-442-2128 to see if there are openings.

The Home Depot Do-It-Yourself Workshop on Saturday from 10-11:30 am, is how to Make Your Toilet Touchless. This event has requested registration, so you can call the store at 573-814-1900, to confirm availability.

Finally, Monday, at 9:29 pm, is the Autumnal Equinox or first day of fall.
