The Museum of Art and Archaeology (MAA) at the University of Missouri (MU) has scheduled the Family Events for this spring semester. During MU fall and spring semesters, MAA holds the Family Events monthly, and during the summer, the Kids Series is held weekly. The events are for kids of age for grades K-8 with accompanying adult(s); limit two children per adult. Register by calling 573-882-3591. We recommend that you register as soon as possible, and keep trying if you are unable to reach someone—the Museum has limited staff and sometimes it takes a bit to get registered. To attend, all events are at the new MAA location: Mizzou North, 115 West Business Loop 70. Meet inside the front door and/or in the Cast Gallery, which is by the front entrance. Free visitor parking is in the farthest row of the parking lot from the front door.

Here is the spring schedule (events are on a Thursday, and from 3:30-5:30 pm):

February 12: Stories in Quilts
Learn about the artist Faith Ringgold, who creates vibrant, exciting art influenced by quilts and African-American history and literature. Afterwards, create your own fabric work of art or make a paper quilt. Supplies: glue sticks, scrapbook paper, and origami paper.

March 12: Women Artists
Participate in a treasure hunt: Find all the artwork in the Museum made by women. Some things will surprise you. Make your own artwork based on one of the styles of the art we find.

April 2: Animals on the Loose
Go on a hunt to find different animals in the art in the Museum. Choose one of these animals to imitate in a drawing or collage.

May 7: Monet
Learn about the artist and then make a version of Monet’s water lily paintings.
