Hercules Slaying the Nemean Lion

Kids Series: World of Art: Heroes and Gods on July 23, 2015.

The Kids Series: World of Art classes at the University of Missouri (MU) Museum of Art and Archaeology (MAA) are underway! Classes are held weekly on Thursdays, and go through August 6; the start time is 3:30 pm, and goes until 5:30 pm, or ends earlier if the kids are done with the activity. These are excellent and fun opportunities for kids of ages corresponding to grades K-8. Kids should have accompanying adult(s); limit two children per adult. The Summer Camp is full, but there are still openings in the remaining Kids Series classes, which are listed below. Register for any or all of them before they are full!

Register by calling 573-882-3591. If you get voice mail, leave your name (the adult) with contact number, and the names and ages of the kids to be registered.

Classes are held at the new MAA location: Mizzou North, 115 West Business Loop 70. Meet inside the front door. Free visitor parking is in the farthest row of the parking lot from the front door, and the spaces closest to Garth Ave. Alternately, transportation is available from the MU campus via the Renew Mizzou Shuttle (PDF route map).

The Way Things Go

Kids Series: World of Art: The Way Things Go on July 30, 2015.

Kids Series Class Schedule (Thursdays, 3:30-5:30 pm)

  • July 16: Pyramid Power
Learn about Egyptian burial practices from the artifacts on view in the Museum. Then create an Egyptian artifact to take home.
  • July 23: Heroes and Gods
Mythology is everywhere in the Museum. Let’s find stories in art together and create a portrait of the hero from your favorite myth.
  • July 30: The Way Things Go
View the art film, “The Way Things Go”, about a kinetic sculpture. Then create your own mobile with parts that move in response to other parts. FCMo Note: This film is awesome! Highly recommended!
  • August 6: Henri Matisse & the Fauves: Painting with Scissors
Known for different types of art, Matisse’s cutouts are especially noteworthy. As a group we will assemble a combined, large artwork based on these.
