August participating businesses with specific events include:

  •  Art reception for the CARE Art Gallery Final Exhibition at Balsamo Warehouse
  • De/composition: An Ekphrastic Art Show at Dogwood Artist Workspace
  • Music by Clayton Hicklin and Austin Jones at Fretboard Coffee
  • Art reception for the August Exhibit Artists at Sager Braudis Gallery
  • Lightning Wood Demo at DrinKraft
  • Art reception for a new Jennifer Wiggs exhibit at Orr St Studios
  • An Art Swap at Wildy’s World

As part of the national trend, First Friday (FF) is a free art crawl in the North Village Arts District (NVAD) on the first Friday of each month, usually occurring from 6 pm to 9 pm. Galleries, shops, and business will be open with music, art demonstrations, children’s activities, refreshments, and much more. The North Village Arts District has loose borders: from Rogers Street to the north to the alley south of Walnut Street; then east from College Avenue and 9th Street to the west. Each First Friday will be different, depending on time of year, and other activities happening in the downtown area. A map/guide postcard will be available at the venues. First Fridays are free and open to the public. First Friday in Columbia, an offshoot of Artlandish Gallery’s First Friday event, began in December 2014.

In addition to First Friday, also from 6-9 pm, you can check out the Craft Beer Cellar Weekend Kickoff Tasting Series event—this week featuring Springfield Brewing Company.
