Mon, Oct 1

7-8 pm: Concert Jazz Band at Stotler Lounge in Memorial Union North, University of Missouri. Access audio streaming links shortly before the concert at https://music.missouri.edu/concert-audio-streaming. Note: End time is estimated and streaming is listed as tentative. Also, the Symphonic Band & University Band concert on October 4 at 7 pm, which is not free for the community to attend, is free to hear via the same streaming page.

Tue, Oct 2

11 am-4 pm (1 pm discussion): LGBTQ History at Mizzou at Stotler Lounge in Memorial Union North, University of Missouri. This is an open exhibit, a self-guided tour, with a 1 pm discussion on everything from 1948 to the present and how these events continue to shape the Mizzou Community.

Wed, Oct 3

8-10 pm: Unrest (2017) [NR] [1:30] is a documentary showing at The Shack in the University of Missouri Student Center. This event is part of Mizzou’s Celebrate Ability Week. Description: When Harvard Ph.D. student Jennifer Brea gets a fever that leaves her bedridden, she sets out to document her story and fight a disease that medicine forgot.

Thu, Oct 4

12-1 pm: This month, the First Thursday Book Discussion on “News of the World” by Paulette Jiles (for adults) meets in the Children’s Program Room of the Columbia Public Library. The discussion will be led by Dr. Sarah Lirley McCune, assistant professor of history at Columbia College.

5-6:30 pm: Ladies Night Out at Legacy Bath & Tile. Once a month they have refreshments, socializing, free advice and free stuff. For October, Tracy Davis with Urbane Country, LLC will talk about home decorating and her business.

Fri, Oct 5

12-1 pm: Women Who Own It Speaker series – Amanda Quick will be speaking at the Missouri Innovation Center. Amanda Quick is the owner of The Hatchery, a coworking space in Columbia. Attendees are welcome to bring their own brown bag lunch. Note: The is in the University of Missouri Business Incubator and the lots around the building are restricted. There are a few visitor parking spaces in front of the building. If needed, contact the the Incubator at 573-884-0496 or check at the front desk if the visitor spaces are full.

4:30-6 pm: Artist talk and reception for the John Schneider MFA Exhibition in Bingham Gallery at the University of Missouri. The talk is set for 4:30 pm. Only paid meter parking is available. This event is before the 6-9 pm First Friday events in the North Village Arts District on the other side of downtown.

Sat, Oct 6

9 am-2 pm: 12th VA (Veteran’s Administration) Center Welcome Home & Car Show at the VA Hospital. The car show begins at 10 am, and the event includes refreshments, a health fair, and activities for kids.

1-3 pm: National Museum Day / International Archaeology Day at Mizzou North. Interactive stations offered by departments, organizations, galleries and museums from the University of Misosuri campus and across the state include Ellis Library Rare Books, Missouri Folk Arts Program, Museum of Anthropology, Museum of Art and Archaeology, State Historical Society, and Textile and Apparel Management.

 Sun, Oct 7

2-6 pm: Dismal Niche Festival Showcase in Rose Park at Rose Music Hall. Doors at 2 pm, and the show begins at 3 pm. This event features LOOSE LOOSE, Devin Frank Vanishing Blues Band, and  It’s Me: Ross.
