Tai Chi, as it is practiced in the West today, can be best thought of as a moving form of yoga and meditation combined. There are a number of forms, called sets, which consist of a sequence of movements. Many of the movements are derived from the martial arts, and perhaps even more ancestrally than that, from the natural movements of animals and birds. Tai Chi movements are performed slowly, softly and gracefully with smooth even transitions.

A representative of every variety of plant life in the gardens has botanical information listed for the species, including its scientific and common names.
Local bands fill the air with live music during “Concerts in the Gardens” on Sunday evenings in June and July, attracting crowds of local music lovers to the garden’s cedar gazebo.
The Shelter Gardens contain 14 features, including a waterfall, rock garden, Vietnam veterans’ memorial, replica 19th century one-room school house, and garden for the blind.
