Studio Camera
The Columbia Public Library has opened a new technology space in the library called the Studio. In addition to the Training Center on the second floor, the Studio is a new public space on the first floor, just past the Friends meeting room. The Studio is a new creative digital lab for computer classes and special programs for all ages. It is a place that offers technology to help you explore your creativity and assist those working on their own creative projects. This new space will evolve and adapt to patron needs throughout the year, so be sure to like the library’s Facebook page for updates and photographs!

Drop in for the Studio Open House this Saturday, March, 14, 2015, from 10 am to 1 pm. Take a tour and learn more about how the library can help you cultivate skills for your latest project. Hands-on activities and demonstrations will be featured for teens and adults. Kids are welcome, too! Refreshments provided.

Other events in the Studio will include some classes transferred from the Training Center, as well as new programs, some of which are highlighted below:

Digital Playground—Explore a combination of digital and real-life experiences
April 23, 5:30-6:30 pm: Colors (ages 4-6). Explore digital painting, then create your own art with real watercolors. Registration begins April 7.
May 7, 6-7 pm: Sound & Music (ages 7-9). Create a digital sound-drawing, then record your own sounds/music and play them back. Registration begins April 21.
This is the new series of children’s programs designed to spark creativity using technology and exploratory play.

Personal Archiving
April 27, 6:30-8 pm. Registration begins April 13.
At this revamped class, library staff will share tips for preserving photos, videos, digital files, and social media accounts and then demonstrate the library’s new digitization equipment. This class will qualify attendees for further hands-on instruction in the use of the scanning and digitizing equipment.

Stop-Motion Animation Workshop (ages 8+)
March 27, 2-4 pm. Registration open now with about seven (7) openings left.
Using iPads, create your own mini-movie, including the option of sound effects! Feel free to bring your own props or figures for the movie. It is recommended to bring a flash drive to take your movie file home with you.
