Tonight, at 6 pm, the movie Babette’s Feast (1987) [G] [1:42] (original title: Babettes gæstebud) will be showing at Ragtag! The Crossing, a regular sponsor of free movies at Ragtag, is presenting this as the first of a new series of movies about food, each followed by discussion. (more about the series below) The Danish/French Babette’s Feast is based on a story by Isak Dinesen, who also wrote Out of Africa which was made into the 1985 movie.

Okay, the reason I (Rebecca) am so excited to share this movie is because it is one of my favorites! No spoilers here, but if you are not already familiar with this movie, I will mention some aspects for your consideration. It is in Danish, and therefore, subtitled. Also, what is wonderful (and may not be for everyone) is that this is a movie you experience. No action. It is not a comedy. No romance. Just plod along…until the end! If you have a love of food and want a wonderful experience—be there! Plus, you get to see the movie on a big screen—I cannot wait!

That said, go to Ragtag NOW (or as soon as you can) and get your tickets. They can sell out, and people with tickets will definitely get in—until 10 minutes before showtime. Then seating is first come, first served. Also, be sure to get there before 6 pm, as seating is closed once the film begins. Note: Only food from the adjacent cafe is allowed in the theater.

Updated Ragtag Free Film Policy

Tickets to free events are available at our box office starting at 10am the day of the show.

No more than four free tickets will be given to one person.

A free ticket guarantees you a seat until 10 minutes before showtime, but not after.

If all tickets have been distributed and there are open seats at 10 till, we will start seating the theater from the waiting list (queue). Ticket holders will continue to be admitted at this time if seats are available.

No latecomers will be admitted after the feature has started (often there are no trailers before free or community films).

This policy allows us to start on time and give the audience a distraction-free experience.
